Step 1
Before the trick is performed, the newspapers must be prepared. Carefully cut out the headline from one newspaper by carefully cutting down the centrefold until just below the Headline and then straight across the page. It is important to cut about 6cms, ¼ inch below the headline.
Step 2
Take the other newspaper and cut down the side of the headline along the centrefold. Then fold the headline behind the page with a firm crease.
Step 3
The cut out headline is now aligned on the page, to replace to space where the folded headline was. This is lightly glued in place using the small border that was left in step 1. The newspaper front page should now appear complete.
Step 4
The performance starts:
Pick up the prepared newspaper and show the audience the back and front pages, no need to open it at this stage. Hold the newspaper in one hand and ‘rip’ the top headline off and place it on the table.
Step 5
Show the audience the paper with the missing headline and when you show the audience the back page fold the paper in half towards you. As you are doing this secretly use your fingers to bring to headline that is folded behind the page, up and into view, replacing the torn off headline. Place the folded newspaper on the table.
Step 6
The trick is now basically complete and all that remains are the theatricals. You must take the torn off headline from the table and make it vanish. You can do this however you like and using any devices that you wish, providing that it really does disappear!
Step 7
Once the audience is convinced that the headline has vanished then the newspaper can be unfolded and the headline has magically re-appeared.
